What is QTVR?
Quicktime (QT) technology from Apple supports the creation of virtual reality (VR) media, by blending seams between photos, and wrapping the resulting Quicktime VR file onto the inside surface of a cylinder or sphere. For more information, see Apple's Quicktime website.
- Panoramas : Viewing a room or scenic vista from a variety of angles
- Objects : A lamp, Ming Dynasty vase, or objects that exist only in the digital domain
- Scenes : An organized collection of hotspot-linked panoramas, objects, scenes, other media, such sound and video, and even URLs.
Interactivity and platform compatibility
Quicktime VR lifts a flat 2D image off the page, and immerses the viewer in 3D environment, allowing interaction via computer and mouse. Panoramas, objects, and scenes are fully interactive, with zooming, animation, and hot spots linked to other multimedia objects available.
QuickTime VR movies can be viewed on computers running Mac OS or Windows software through either the QuickTime Plug-in for web browsers or any application that can play standard QuickTime movies.
